Title: Chicago Lying-In Hospital scrapbook Description: Scrapbook containing clippings from newspapers and magazines about the Chicago Lying-in Hospital (founded as the Lying-in Dispensary in 1895 and affiliated with the University of Chicago in 1929) and about Dr. Joseph B. DeLee, the founder who became internationally known for his innovations as an obstetrician. The hospital was founded near Hull House in the Near West Side community area to bring scientific services to poor residents of the neighborhood. Also present are programs from hospital events and letters and telegrams from Dr. DeLee and from Ellen Kempner, the president of the Mothers' Aid organization at the hospital in the 1930s.
