Title:Buffalo standing on a field in the Palos District of the Forest PreserveDescription:Image of a buffalo standing on a field in Palos Township, Illinois. Trees and a small building are visible in the background. The building appears to have a sod roof. In 1924, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County brought buffalo into its Palos District at a location later called Buffalo Woods, near the northwest corner of 87th Street and Kean Avenue. After buffalo escaped from their compound several times, the president of the Forest Preserve board authorized citizens to shoot strays. Eventually the buffalo were moved to Lincoln Park Zoo.Date Depicted:1924-1928Creator:Chicago Daily News, Inc.Creator Role:photographerPhysical Format:glass negativesCopyright Notice:No Known CopyrightCredit Line:DN-0085296, Chicago Daily News collection, Chicago Historical SocietyAccession Number:1960.784Storage Location:Chicago Daily News negatives collection, Chicago History MuseumHorizon Bib.
