Title: Dress Description: Dress (a) of off-white silk crepe and net. Wide neckline edged with lace. Full sleeves and overskirt are banded with alternating stripes of crepe and net, each separated by a row of pearls. Panels of silk crepe loop over shoulders and extend to wrists; panels are backed with pearl-embroidered lamé. Drop-waisted skirt, embroidered around waistband with pearls. Overskirt splits at center front and extends to the floor at back. Chemise (b) of off-white silk. Exposed where overskirt panels meet at center front. Calf-length.; This Renaissance-style dress was worn by the donor, née Janet Lawrence, on the occasion of her marriage to Robert McCormick Adams on May 3, 1924 at St. James Episcopal Church in Chicago, followed by a reception at the home of the bride' s parents at 1508 N. State Parkway. The wedding gown was ordered from Lanvin in Paris by the bride's mother through Madame Marguerite Pick's Michigan Avenue salon in Chicago. A sketch of this dress was featured in American Vogue.
