mrs barnett matthews sitting by a window in a room

Portrait of Mrs. Barnett Matthews, sitting by a window in a room in Chicago, Illinois. Matthews is holding back the curtain to look out the window, and has a folder newspaper on her lap. Her nine-year-old son, Cyril (Sonny) Matthews, had been missing for five days. Police believed a woman kidnapped the boy, wishing to have a child of her own. A fake ransom note was received by the Matthews, and they went to a psychic for advice.
