Living photograph of an American flag comprised of 10,000 recruits at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Illinois, June 11, 1917. Width of left side of the flag: 428 feet; width of the right side of the flag: 128 feet; length of top of the flag: 293 feet; length of bottom of the flag: 73 feet; width of left end of star field: 350 feet; width of right end of star field: 184 feet; length of top of star field: 143 feet; length of bottom of star field: 66 feet. 700 men were used to form the flagpole. The star on the lower right side used twelve men, while the star on the upper right side required sixty-five.
