woman and nurse

A nurse holds a small garment at a table with a seated woman whom the negative sleeve describes as prenatal. This was an activity of Chicago's Infant Welfare Society. The IWS was a social service organization which resulted from a merger of the Milk Commission of Chicago and the Children's Hospital Society. The collection includes scenes at IWS stations with mothers and children being examined by health care staff.
