In 2020, the Chicago History Museum acquired a Vivian Maier photography collection of around 1,800 color negatives and transparencies. This collection of images, many never-before-seen, reflect Maier's unique take on the world around her.

Open from May 8, 2021, to December 31, 2022, Vivian Maier: In Color was a multimedia exhibition featuring more than 65 color images shot during her time as a suburban Chicago nanny from the 1950s to 1970s, most of which had never been on display, as well as film clips, quotations, and sound bites.
