Artwork/Object Depicted is the artwork or object type of the original item.

Asset is any digital object—i.e. image, audio file, or video file—made accessible on the web-ordering site.

Cart is where you store the images you intend to purchase and download for use. You will be required to enter some basic usage details in order to proceed with your order.

Copyright is a form of protection grounded in the U.S. Constitution and granted by law for original works of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression. Copyright law grants creators the right to control the ways in which their material may be used. Copyright may be transferred to another party by the original copyright holder. Copyright Notice is the copyright status of the image.

Creator is the name of the person or entity who has created the artwork or object depicted in the image.

Creator Role is the job title of the person that created the artwork or object depicted in the image.

Credit Line is the recognition of the photographer, copyright owner, and/or source of an image which should be displayed along with the publication or distribution of the image. The Chicago History Museum requests that a source credit and Image ID be identified with the image, such as "Chicago History Museum, ICHi-12345." If the photographer is known, the image credit may read "Chicago History Museum, ICHi-12345. J.W. Taylor, photographer." In some instances, the Chicago History Museum may be the source of an image from its collection, but not the copyright holder. In those cases, additional permission may be required from the copyright holder.

Date Created is the date that the artwork or object depicted in the image was created.

Date Depicted is the date of the event that the object was captured. It is used primarily for photographic materials.

Lightbox is where you can save a selection of images. You can send a copy of a lightbox to others.

File size measures the size of the digital file. The size of the digital file determines how large an image can be reproduced.

Headline is a brief summary of the image content.

Image ID is a unique identifier that functions as a reference for the image. The Image ID should be referenced in the Credit Line when an image is used.

Inventory Number is the accession number or call number used to reference the physical artwork or object.

JPEG is a file format for compressing image files. All images delivered through this site will be available as a JPEG unless otherwise requested.

Storage Location is the location of the physical artwork or object within the museum’s collections.

TIFF is a lossless file format for storing image files.
